Russell grew up clambering across the mountainsides in his beautiful home state of Colorado. Throughout his childhood, always with a constant spark of mischief and curiosity, he explored passions for piano, guitar, voice, stand up comedy, manual photography, stop motion animation, and many thousands of hours in rehearsal rooms of every kind diving deeper into the rabbit hole of acting.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the prestigious theatre program at UC San Diego, earning the top honor for performance with the Milton H. Saier Memorial Award. Hungry to open up even more as a performer, he then dove right into the rigorous summer training program with Chicago-based Theatre Company, Steppenwolf, at their West Coast summer intensive. In 2014, he founded a theater and film production company called Youngest Brother Productions with his friend and UCSD Alum, Jack Mikesell. Their inaugural production of Sam Shepard's True West was a thrilling, blowout event and they are currently editing a feature-length documentary chronicling the acting/producing process and exploring the struggle that self-made actors have in the current entertainment climate. In 2016, Russell became a member of Pure Praxis, a social theater group that is contracted by the Department of Navy to provide sexual assault and retaliation prevention training on Naval bases around the world.
